British Events

There are a lot of festivals all over the world. I point out about British festivals and classic events. There are a lot of events only in British. Therefore I pick out about them which similar to Japanese festivals. I will check some distinction about between British and Japanese festivals.

New Year's Eve and New Year's Day
First, about New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, all over the Britain on 31 December there are New Year celebrations. Most people see in the New Year with friends and relations. At midnight on New Year ‘s Eve, everybody joins hands and sings Auld Lang Syne, a poem by the Scottish poet Robert Burns. In Scotland and the North of England, people go first footing. They call at friends houses, trying to be the first person through the door after midnight. To symbolize good luck, the visitor carries a piece of coal and a glass of water. And on New Year’s Day, people make New Year’s resolutions. They decide to do something to improve their lives.

Saint Valentine Day
Next, about Saint Valentine Day, Saint Valentine Day is February 14th. People send a Valentine card to someone they love, fancy, admire or secretly like. Usually you don’t sign your name. The person who receives the cards has to guess who sent it. In Japan, at Valentine Day, people send a chocolate to someone they love. And they present message card signed sender name to someone with chocolate. Later, the person who receives the chocolate has to return in March 14th. This day is named White Day.

Christmas Day
Last, about Christmas card and Christmas Day. Most people send Christmas cards to their friends and relations. Some shops sell charity cards and the profits made from selling these cards go to good causes. Christmas day is the most important day of the holiday is 25 December, or Christmas Day. Children wake up early to find a stocking full of small presents on their bed. Other presents, opened when everyone is together, are arranged around the Christmas tree, which is usually decorated with multicolored lights. A traditional Christmas dinner includes roast turkey, roast potatoes and Brussels sprouts, followed by Christmas pudding.

Conclusion
Like this, give all particular, make a comparison between Britain and Japanese events, there are a little differences. I thought Britain events is lively than Japanese events. How these traditional events come to Japan? I will investigate about world events more.
